Found: 12 Hours Missing, Located by Thermal
A small dog went missing for nearly 12 hours. Ground searches found nothing — the dog was out in a swamp, where a small animal is almost impossible to spot from the ground, even in daylight.
We launched the Matrice 4TD and let the thermal camera do what eyes can’t. It picked up the dog’s heat signature in the swamp. We held overhead, lit the spot with the drone’s spotlight, and guided a searcher in by phone until the dog was safe. (At one point a deer came within eight feet of the dog — we held off rather than risk spooking either animal.)

About TRA
Thermal Response Aerial was founded by Jeff Weckel, an FAA Part 107 certified pilot with more than 10 years of flying experience. Before taking to the air full-time, Jeff served 29 years in federal law enforcement — a career built on methodical searches, careful documentation, and showing up when it counts. Over that career he worked alongside the U.S. Secret Service, the FBI, U.S. Border Patrol, FEMA, the Federal Air Marshal Service, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Federal Protective Service (FPS).
That background shapes every flight. A lost-pet search is flown as a real search: planned, systematic, and persistent, with the pilot talking you through what the camera sees as it happens.

TRA flies a DJI Matrice 4TD — a professional aircraft with radiometric thermal imaging, a zoom camera, a spotlight, and an onboard speaker. The ‘D’ matters: the 4TD is IP55-rated, dust- and water-resistant, built to keep flying in rain and harsh, extreme weather that grounds lesser drones. It can search after dark and spot a heat signature through brush and swamp where eyes and flashlights come up empty.
